Growing Collards

Growing Collards was a project engaging with post-Katrina food deserts and the myths about greens in the south. Collards are a northern misnomer—as they are mostly turnip and mustard greens, where collards grow better in northern climates. For two months in five locations, including the home location of Gia Hamilton’s Gris-Gris Labs, I collected stories, drawings and recipes. Laine Kaplan-Levenson produced the video below.
