Book Design

After I spent two years completing a Masters in book construction and graphic layout at the Corcoran College, now part of George Washington University, in 2013 I completed an internship on small press books with Red Hen Press under the tutelage of former engineer Mark E. Cull.

There is an architecture to layout.

Kerning, leading, font choices, balance of white space, thumb-holds, adjusting the metrics for optics. The digestibility of information depends upon how it is nested within an aesthetic structure. Excellence takes time to cultivate. You want a designer with years of formal training and workplace experience.

Pro Tip:

Aesthetics are easily adaptable but years of knowledge and training cannot be quickly learned.
